No More Meetings at the Naperville Muni Center?

The agenda for the Naperville City Council meeting on Tuesday, December 16 at 7PM contains a item recommending that non-governmental groups no longer be allowed to rent meeting space in the Municipal Center; this item shows up near the end of the Agenda as Item O.1.:

Approve the recommendation to discontinue meeting room rentals at the Municipal Center to all outside non-governmental groups effective July 1, 2026 and authorize meeting room use at no charge between January 1 and June 30, 2026, for those outside non-governmental groups that utilized Municipal Center meeting rooms during calendar year 2025.

Here are the details of the proposal.

Contrary to City Staff assertions, there are few good alternatives for relocating our meetings. For instance, to effectively rent space from the DuPage UU Church we would need to change our meeting day to avoid extensive room setup in a non-ideal space. We can’t rent school space as suggested because School Board members can’t participate in political events on school grounds, and we have several regular members who would be affected. Some venues, such as libraries, usually can’t be reserved far in advance, potentially resulting in last minute changes and location uncertainty.

Therefore, I’m urging LTDO members to review these materials, as well as how to send comments to City Council Members (see the list in the Data Center post, or even sign up to speak at the meeting to lobby against this proposal. The first page of the Agenda lists the ways to provide comments. Naperville residents would have the most influence on the Council’s decision, though others affected can comment as well.

Thank you for any help you can offer!

Speak Out About the Data Center!

Contact Naperville City Council BEFORE it’s too late!

The Data Center will be surrounded by residences. People think that the I-88 corridor is industrial; however, this area is not as shown in the existing housing. It is my understanding there is another high density subdivision planned and approved across the street to the east of Naper Commons and South of the church. Hundreds of families live here. Data Centers have no place in residential areas or near wildlife or our Forrest Preserves. The noise alone will disrupt wildlife.

This might come up during the City Council meeting at 7PM on Tuesday, Dec. 16, though it is not on the agenda. It’s my understanding that we are behind in votes on this issue. PLEASE email them ASAP.

Stop the SAVE Act!

Voting is a fundamental right for all American citizens, but many politicians want to silence us by implementing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This Act was passed in the House but can be stopped in the Senate.

This act would force every single American citizen to prove their citizenship status in person when registering to vote or updating their voter registration information. For the vast majority of Americans, this would mean presenting a passport or birth certificate at their local election office.

Click on this link to to send an email to Congress telling them to STOP the Save Act.

Submit a comment to the EAC before Monday October 20 here.

“Good Trouble” National Day of Action July 17

Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, “Good Trouble” is the action of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on Thursday, July 17, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, communities across the country will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.

Nearby events will be held in Bartlett, Naperville, Glen Ellyn, Bolingbrook, Des Plaines,  and Schaumburg. More information is available at mobilize.us/john-lewis-action. The Naperville event will be held from 5 to 6:30 pm. Get more information and sign up for this event at mobilize.us/john-lewis-actions/event/809279.

Stop the Budget Bill with its hidden dictator clause

A small addition to the budget bill House GOPers are pushing upends the traditional balance of power by forbidding courts to charge Trump and other government officials with contempt for defying court orders.

The bill also blocks court-ordered national injunctions to prevent potential illegal acts posing imminent harm.

With the SCOTUS ruling giving Trump immunity, this small part of the bill completes his quest to become America’s first dictator.

It must be stopped!!
