Lisle Township Democratic Organization

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." - Lyndon Baines Johnson

Naperville Electricity Update

by Thom Higgens

Editor’s note: this is a long article. The first two paragraphs follow; read the entire article via the links below. Thanks to Holly Hootman for spotting this.

For my Naperville friends, as you may know, we are knee deep in trying to figure out our energy future. The following is a deep dive to give interested folks a good idea of what is happening and where we are. Happy reading.

On August 19th, Council voted to not accept the request by IMEA (electricity provider) to extend the contract from 2035 to 2055. Instead, Mayor Wehrli proposed a 9-point modification to the contract (increased to 10 at the meeting). It is now up to the City to negotiate with IMEA on revising the terms. The requested modifications are ambitious, and there is no guarantee that IMEA will entertain any of them. At this point, the deadline has passed to sign. 30 of the 32 municipalities have signed. St. Charles said no, and we are asking for changes. Combined, we and St. Charles are 50% of IMEA’s output.
